The question of whether excessive and unnecessary force in the police department is worse than we thought will hot topic heating up in the upcoming months.
Today, according to news reports, two Philadelphia Police Officers have been charged with beating a man alleged to have been caught painting graffiti on a wall. One article, reported on Philly.com, reports that Officer Sheldon Fitzgerald and Howard Hill, III, states that the two officers “beat him, handcuffed him and tossed him in the back of their patrol car, head first”. According to the article, the man lost three teeth and suffered from a broken jaw, which had to be wired shut for five weeks — the officers will be suspended and fired, according to Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.
